Wine & Cider
Having purchased the property in the fall of 2017, we were able to harvest our first cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir grapes in 2017. Since then, we have planted an additional five acres of wine grapes, including chardonnay, pinot noir, pinotage, and chenin blanc, from which we had our first harvest in 2021! Inspired by a visit to family living in South Africa, Judy suggested planting South African varietals pinotage and chenin blanc, unique grapes in this region that produce delicious wines. A block of malbec will be going in this summer.
Our wine is made by winemaker Linda Donovan of Pallet Wine Company. Linda has extensive winemaking experience and has provided endless support to us as we learn all that goes into turning our beautiful grapes into Dos Mariposas wines. As our new vineyard comes into maturity, we are slowly expanding our offerings to include rosés, and possibly some blends in the future.
When our apple and pear trees started to produce mature fruit our first fall here, we quickly realized we had more fruit than we could ever possibly know what to do with! Having not yet completed our tasting room and farm stand, our outlets to sell our fruit directly were limited. We were fortunate to connect with Chris Graves, winemaker at Naumes Crush and Fermentation. Chris and his team were just dipping their toes into the cider-making business and our small batch of fruit proved to be a good size for a test run of their new machinery. We decided to produce an apple pear blend and what a great decision that turned out to be! We plan to continue making our small-batch, estate hard cider, offering it in the tasting room for as long as it lasts. We expect it to go quickly on hot summer days!
Where To Get Dos Mariposas Wine & Cider
Our wines and hard cider are currently only available for purchase onsite in full bottles. Once the tasting room construction is complete, we will offer wine tastings, wine and cider by the glass, and bottle purchases. Dos Mariposas wine can also be found in the Urban Cork tasting room for sale by the glass or bottle.
